Our story
It started with a little deli.
In 1988, a deli called Swiss Colony opened inside the front entrance of Parkwood Mall in Wilson, North Carolina. Sandwiches, meats, and cheeses brought people to the counter. More tables and chairs soon followed, and Something Different was born.
Marilyn and Paul bought the restaurant in June 1989. Over the next decade, the café kept serving its familiar sandwiches, chips, and pickles while its catering business grew. A salad bar and Friday and Saturday seafood bar gave guests even more reasons to gather.

A new chapter
Marilyn and Paul take over in June, building on the food and service our guests came to know.
A place on Airport Boulevard
In June, the restaurant moves out of the mall to focus on lunch service and a growing catering business.
Room to come together
In June, we move into our current location, with more space for dining, banquets, and celebrations.
Our place or yours
Hospitality that travels.
Today, our 6,600-square-foot building includes a dining room of more than 3,600 square feet for functions and events. White linens, banquet service, and a dedicated catering fleet help us serve occasions throughout the region.
The original wooden Something Different sign from Parkwood Mall still hangs inside the restaurant. It’s a reminder of where we began, and of our commitment to the community and surrounding area.
